Stand ein Bäumlein auf der Höh',
Stand ein Mägdlein an der See,
Bäumlein hat kein Blättlein mehr,
Mägdlein war's um's Herz so schwer.

Bäumlein wünscht sich Blüt' und Blatt,
Mägdlein sah sich nimmer satt,
Bäumlein möchte blühen schön,
Mägdlein möcht' den Liebsten sehn.

Und als kam der Frühling her,
Bäumlein ward geschmückt gar sehr,
Doch das Mägdlein immer stand
Traurig noch am Meeresstrand.
