Es war da Herz mir voll,
so voll, als wollt'es springen,
ich konnte nicht lachen, nicht weinen,
ich konnte die Ruhe nicht finden.
Die Unruh' wurde grösser,
die Herzensqual die stieg,
ich warf mich auf die Knie,
da ward mir leicht der Sieg!
Da bin ich aufgestanden,
o, wunderbare Macht,
der Hilferuf auf Knien
hat Ruhe mir gebracht!
