You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Ich küsse dich auf die Wangen

Language: German (Deutsch)

Ich küsse dich auf die Wangen
zum allerletzten Mal,
und wenn ich von dir gegangen,
dann kommen der Schmerz und die Qual:
ich muß der Rosen Frühlingspracht
im Quell der Thränen tränken,
doch hab' ich im Herzen mir gedacht,
daß du wirst mein gedenken.

Wie dort, auf grünendem Raine,
Waldröschen einsam verdorrt,
so welken im Morgenscheine,
auch meine Blüthen fort;
ich muß zur finstern Grabesnacht
die fröhlichen Schritte lenken,
doch hab' ich im Herzen mir gedacht,
daß du wirst mein gedenken.

Nun küss' ich dich auf die Wangen
zum letzten Scheidegruß,
dann sagt mir der Seele Bangen,
daß ich von dir scheiden muß;
der Gott, der hoch im Himmel wacht,
wird Frieden mir Armen schenken,
denn still im Herzen hab' ich gedacht,
daß du wirst mein gedenken.
