from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Aurora
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wer sich auf Ruhm begiebet,
Und freie Tage liebet,
Der liebt Aurorens Licht;
Dann Gras muß Blumen bringen,
Der Vögel leichtes Singen
Durch alle Lüfte bricht.

Wer Waffen trägt und krieget,
Wer an den Ketten lieget,
Wer auf dem Meere wallt,
Wer voll ist schwerer Sorgen,
Der spricht: Wann wird es morgen?
Aurora komm doch bald!

Laß mich nur dies erlangen,
Wann ich mein Lieb umfangen,
So halt den Zügel an,
Halt an die hellen Blicke,
Bis ich zuvor mein Glücke
Wie recht, gebrauchen kann.
