by Gerhart (Johann Robert) Hauptmann (1862 - 1946)

Graue Nebel decken See und Land
Language: German (Deutsch)
Graue Nebel decken See und Land,
von der Bäume Scheitel trieft es feucht,
eine mitleidslose Totenhand
gelbe Blätter von den Zweigen scheucht.

Und die gelben Blätter fallen sacht
auf die Pfade, die mein Fuß betritt;
und ein jedes lockt zur Mutter Nacht
meine müde, müde Seele mit.

Kommt ein weißer Schwan auf schwarzer Flut,
singend jene alte Melodei,
die so weh dem kranken Herzen tut
und so unaussprechlich wohl dabei.
