O Maria, sei gegrüßt!
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
O Maria, sei gegrüßt!
Die du voller Gnade bist,
Sei gegrüßt, du höchste Zier,
Gott der Herr ist selbst mit dir.
Du bist hoch gebenedeit
Vor den Weibern aller Zeit,
Und gebenedeiet ist,
Deine Frucht, Herr Jesus Christ.
Keusche Mutter unsers Herrn,
Deine Fürbitt' wir begehr'n,
Hilf uns jetzt und allezeit,
Sonderlich im Todesstreit.
Sieh, wir Menschen allzugleich
Seufzen nach dem Himmelreich,
O Maria, steh uns bei,
Daß dein Kind uns Gnad verleih!
Ach befiehl uns deinem Sohn,
Daß er unsrer Sünd verschon',
Durch sein heilges Kreuz und Leid
Führ' uns in die Seligkeit!
M. Reger sets stanzas 1, 3

The greeting of the angel
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Oh Mary, we greet Thee!
Thou who art full of mercy,
Hail, Thou greatest of adornments,
The Lord God Himself is with Thee.
Thou art highly blessed
Before the women of all times,
And blessed is
Thy fruit, Lord Jesus Christ.
Chaste Mother of our Lord,
Thy intercession we crave,
Help us now and forevermore,
Particularly in the battle with death.
See, we humans all withal
Sigh for the Kingdom of Heaven,
Oh Mary, see us through
That Thy child may show us grace!
Ah, commend us to Thy Son
That He may grant us reprieve for our sins,
And through His holy cross and suffering
Lead us to salvation!
