Ich ging einst einen Frühlingstag

Ich ging einst einen Frühlingstag,
Wo alles schön und lustig lag,
Kam an ein einsam Sommerhaus,
Ein liebes Mädchen trat heraus,
Und weint' und ging und sang betrübt:
"Ach, wer hat je, wie ich, geliebt!"

Sie gieng die Wiese still umher,
Und rang die Hand und seufzte schwer;
Dann pflückte sie ein Blümchen ab,
Wie's hie und da die Wiese gab,
Maasliebchen, klein' Vergiß mein nicht,
Und seufzte: "ach er liebt mich nicht!"

Sie band die Blumen in ein Bund,
Weint' noch einmal aus Herzensgrund:
"Vergiß mein nicht! hier bind' ich dich.
Für wen? -- Maasliebchen, schaust auf mich,
Weinst um mich! -- Ja, ich bin betrübt;
Er hat mich nicht, wie ich ihn g'liebt."

Nun hatt' sie Busen voll und Schoos, 
Und ach! nun ward ihr Schmerz zu groß;
Sie goß die liebe Bürd' hinab;
"Liegt, sprach sie, seyd mein sanftes Grab!"
Und sank dahin -- ein stilles Ach! 
Voll Lieb' und Leid ihr Herz zerbrach.
