You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Ich höre das sanfte Gemurmel
  Der Quelle, bis tief in die Nacht;
Ich träume dem dämmernden Morgen
  Entgegen, -- und habe gewacht.

Weit über der bläulichen Ferne,
  Erspäh' ich mit forschendem Blick
Der friedlichen Heimath Geburge,
  Und sehne mich seufzend zurück.

Es ziehen die läutenden Heerden
  Vorüber, ich höre sie kaum;
Vergebens durchsuch' ich die Wälder,
  Hier schmückt ja kein Name den Baum.

Es öffnet die duftende Rose
  Den Busen, am dornigen Stab,
Doch eh' ich zum Kranze sie winde,
  So fallen die Blätter schon ab.

Die Flöte des einsamen Hirten,
  Sucht weit wohl das Liebchen umher;
Ich könnte vor Schluchzen nicht singen,
  Mir klopfet das Herz, ach! so schwer.

Schon hüllt in den trauernden Schleier,
  Der Vollmond sein nächtliches Licht;
Die Sehnsucht, -- die naget am Leben,
  Und naget, -- und tödtet doch nicht.
