You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of April 20, we are $4,600 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today and join dozens of other supporters in making this important renovation possible!

Ich hab' in den Klüften des Berges...

Language: German (Deutsch)

Er.
 Ich hab' in den Klüften des Berges gehaust
 Gar manche schaurige Nacht,
 Und wann in den Föhren der Sturm gesaust,
 Recht wild in den Sturm gelacht.

 Da, wo die Spur sich des Menschen verlor,
 Ward's erst mir im Busen leicht;
 Ich bin geklommen auf Gipfel empor,
 Die sonst nur der Adler erreicht.

 Das Land, vom luftigen Horst geschaut,
 Lag unten, von Wolken verdeckt;
 Da schallte mein Lied gar grimmig und laut, -
 Das Lied - hat schier mich erschreckt.

 Und nieder trieb mich die grausige Lust
 Am Strom der Wildnis entlang;
 Ihn überschrie aus bewegter Brust
 Mein seltsam brausender Sang.

 Der Strom vertobt in ein friedliches Thal,
 Dort liegt ein einsames Haus -
 Ein Rosengarten - ein Gartensaal -
 Es schaut wohl jemand heraus.

 Und wie ich schweifend vorübergewallt
 Am Hag, wo die Rosen sind,
 Sind alle die schaurigen Lieder verhallt,
 Ich ward so ein sanftes Kind!
