You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Rauscht nirgend mir ein grüner Wald

Language: German (Deutsch)

Rauscht nirgend mir ein grüner Wald,
Darin ich rasten mag?
Das wär' mein trauter Aufenthalt
Den langen Sommertag.
Ach, nur in holder Grüne Bann
Noch einmal, oder nie,
Find ich, die mich so hold umspann,
Die Kindheit, die so bald entrann,
Verklung'ne Melodie!

Hoch gebt um mich des Lebens Flut!
Was lockt ihr Zauberschein?
Wer nicht an treuem Herzen ruht,
Ist auch im Schwarm allein.
Vor meinem Augen blaut die See;
Doch spült aus meinem Sinn
Sie weg das Unvergeßliche?
Sie lenkt in's Unermeßliche
Mein Sehnen fernehin.

O, wiegte wieder, wie einmal,
Nur eine gold'ne Stund'
Am Waldsee mich, im Schattenthal,
Ein kühler Bergesgrund!
Wenn Sehnsucht in die Weite fliegt,
Im Grünen ruht sie bald.
Da sinkt die Schwing' ihr, traumbesiegt,
Mit grüner Schranke hold umschmiegt
Das Herz der Tannenwald.
