Der Mond steigt auf und leuchtet durch die Mainacht,
er hängt im Laub wie eine Blutorange,
die Lilie schickt ihm sehnsuchtsvollen Duft.
 
Die Nachtigall schickt ihm die ganze Sehnsucht
der schönsten ihrer Lieder in den Äther,
er zieht vorüber, ungerührt und stolz.
 
Du bist der Mond, Geliebte,
und die Sehnsucht der Lilie ist die Sehnsucht meines Herzens,
und meine Lippen sind die Nachtigall.
 
Sie flehn zu dir in allen Frühlingsnächten,
du aber, wie der Mond im kühlen Nachthauch,
ziehst stumm vorüber, ungerührt und stolz.
