Deine Blätter die sind so hold, so gold,
Entfallen, entfallen im Schlaf dir, im Traum,
Wie die Jugend im Traum, wie die Jugend verrollt! 

Und wenn du erwachest, Lindenbaum,
Da sind sie verdorret, da sind sie dahin,
Tautropfen fallen vom Himmelsraum
Zu trösten deinen traurigen Sinn.

Dir ging's wie mir, mein Lindenbaum,
Als ich erwacht' aus der Jugend Traum,
Da sah ich umher: gefallen vom Haupt
Alle Blumen und Kränze, ich stand entlaubt!
