Die Peitsche knallet lustig drein,

Wie weht so scharf der kalte Wind! 
  Hallo! 
Wie saust der Schütten hin geschwind!

Was springt dort auf vom Schall erschreckt? 
  O je! 
Ein Häschen ist's, lag tief versteckt 
  Im Schnee.

Nun läuft es fort so schnell es kann, 
Es fürchtet wol den Jägersmann,
  O je! 
Es singt im Wald kein Vogel mehr
  So froh! 
Nur Krähen krächzen um uns her,
  Kro, kro! 
Der Winter macht uns wohlgemuth,
Ob er's wol auch den Vögeln thut
  So froh?
Der Baum ist kahl, dem Thier ist kalt,
  Doch da! 
Gäb's nur im Lenz noch Schlittenbahn,
Wir wünschten auch den Lenz heran.
