by Gottfried Keller (1819 - 1890)

Wie nun Alles stirbt und endet
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie nun Alles stirbt und endet,
Und das letzte Lindenblatt
Müd sich an die Erde wendet
In die warme Ruhestatt.
So auch unser Tun und Lassen,
Was uns zügellos erregt,
Unser Lieben, unser Hassen
Sei zum welken Laub gelegt.

Reiner weißer Schnee, o schneie,
Decke beide Gräber zu,
Daß die Seele uns gedeihe
Still und kühl in Winterruh'!
Bald kommt jene Frühlingswende,
Die allein die Liebe weckt,
Wo der Haß umsonst die Hände
Dräuend aus dem Grabe streckt.
