Ihre Augen

Ich kenn' ein Auge, dessen Strahl 
  Mir tief zur Seele dringt,
Und dessen Feuer jedes Mahl 
  Mein Herz zum Pochen bringt.

D'rum faßt' ich auch den Vorsatz fest,
  Den bösen Blick zu flieh'n,
Und so der Ruhe letzten Rest 
  Den Flammen zu entzieh'n.

Allein so fest der Vorsatz war,
  So hält er doch nicht an:
Ich blick' in's dunkle Augenpaar
  So oft ich immer kann.

Ich mag dem Drang nicht widersteh'n, 
  Und pocht mir gleich das Herz,
Denn es ist doch, so recht beseh'n,
  Ein gar zu süßer Schmerz.
