Traum von der Mutter

Language: German (Deutsch)

Draußen auf den warmen Wiesen
Will ich nach den Wolken sehen
Und die müden Augen schließen
Und ins Träumeland hinüber
Hin zu meiner Mutter gehen.

Oh, sie hat mich schon vernommen!
Leise geht sie mir entgegen,
Der ich ferneher gekommen,
Meine Stirne, meine Hände,
Still in ihren Schoß zu legen.

Wird sie jetzt nach Dingen fragen,
Die ich nur mit Scham gestehe
Und mit bitterlichen Klagen?
Nein, sie lacht! Sie lacht und freut sich
Meiner lang vermißten Nähe.

Dream of my mother

Language: English after the German (Deutsch)

Outside upon the warm meadows
I shall look toward the clouds
And close my weary eyes
And wander over to my mother
In the land of dreams.

Oh, she has already perceived me!
Quietly she walks toward me,
Who came from far away,
To lay my brow, my hands
Silently into her lap.

Shall she now ask about things
To which I admit only with shame
And with bitter lamentations?
No, she laughs! She laughs and rejoices in
My nearness, which she has missed for a long time.
