Nun ist der letzte Tag erschienen

Nun ist der letzte Tag erschienen,
Und sonnig blickt er in das Tal.
Der Wald scheint tiefer heut zu grünen,
Und Blumen duften ohne Zahl,
Es wogt das Korn in goldnen Ähren,
Die Vögel singen wie zum Fest,
Der Himmel selbst will uns verklären
Der süßen Stunden kurzen Rest.
O laß noch heute drum das Härmen!
Noch ruh' ich ja an deiner Brust.
Wie Jephthas Tochter wolle schwärmen
Durch Berg und Tal in reiner Lust!
Ergib dich selig dem Genusse,
Bis fern der Sonne Strahl verglimmt
Und mit dem letzten Abschiedskusse
Den Kelch uns von den Lippen nimmt.

Now the last day has appeared
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Now the last day has appeared,
and the sun shines in the valley.
The forest glimmers today ever deeper
so its verdure may be admired,
and countless flowers send forth their aroma.
The rich golden ears of grain
undulate in the breeze,
and the birds sing as for a festival.
Heaven itself wishes to glorify for us
the so short remnants of these sweet hours.
Therefore, keep your grief far away,
as I remain resting upon your breast.
Like Jephtha's daughter sought to wander
through woods and valleys in purest pleasure!
So blessed, surrender to ecstasy
until the faroff sunbeams die out,
and takes the chalice from our lips
with the final kiss of farewell.
