La pimprenelle est pour son âme,
La vigne est pour l'amuser,
La rose à qui voudra l'aimer.
Beau chevalier! Beau chevalier!
Mais il ne passe plus personne,
Et la fillette aux yeux cernés
A laissé tomber les courronnes.

Det er den lille jenta med svarte ringer rundt øynene,
Med sitt forbausede uttrykk
og sine tre skjøre kroner:
En laget av fersk blodtopp,
En annen av snelleplante,
Så den tredje - en høstens rose.
Blodtoppen er for hennes sjel,
Snelleplanten for å underholde henne,
Rosen for enhver som ønsker å elske henne.
Vakre ridder! Vakre ridder!
Men det passerer aldri mer noe menneske,
Og den lille jenta med svarte ringer under øynene
har latt kronene falle.
