Ein Brausen geht durch den sterbenden Wald,
[Die Blätter fliegen tot und kalt,]1
Das sind der Herbstnacht Stürme;
In Grauen gehüllt und in Dunkelheit,
Wie liegen die Lande so fremd und so weit!
Fern klingen die Glocken der Türme.
Zur wilden Jagd nach vergänglichem Gut
Drängt dort sich die eilige Menschenflut,
Die Brandung wächst in den Gassen,
Wer hört auf den schüttenden Glockenklang?
Er tönt die einsame Felder entlang
Hoch über den Köpfen der Massen.
Geflügelten Rades steuert die Zeit
Zermalmend fort über Lust und Leid
Durch ungemessene Fernen, -
Du lausche dem Klang mit gefühligem Ohr,
Erhebe den Blick zum Himmel empor,
Zu den rettenden ewigen Sternen!

Capvespre de tardor

Un bramul passa a través del bosc morent,
les fulles voletegen mortes i fredes,
així són les tempestes de les nits de tardor;
embolcallades en la basarda i la foscúria,
les terres semblen tan estranyes, tan distants!
Al lluny, toquen les campanes de la torre.
Al ferotge empait dels béns passatgers,
s’apressa el devessall dels humans,
la marea s’acreix als carrers,
qui escolta el repicar de les campanes?
Ressona al llarg dels camps solitaris
per damunt dels caps de la gentada.
Amb una roda alífera, el temps aclaparador
segueix governant damunt joies i penes
a través d’immesurables distàncies,
escolta el ressò amb orelles sensibles,
aixeca el teu esguard vers el cel,
vers les eternes estrelles salvadores!
