La mare prega dolçament i esguarda amb encís el seu fillet que s’adorm; ell jau al bressol, tan tendre, tan delicat, li deu semblar un àngel. Ella el besa i l’acarona; a penes es pot retenir, oblidant les penes terrenals, els seus somnis d’esperança vagaregen al futur; així somien les mares dins del seu cor. Mentrestant el corb, amb el seu clan a fora a la finestra, gralla una tonada: el teu àngel, el teu àngel serà nostre! El brivall serà el nostre menjar!
