In turbato mare irato
Language: Latin
Available translation(s): FRE GER
In turbato mare irato
naufragatur alma pax.
Cito splende, ah splende, o cara,
in procella tam amara,
suspirata coeli fax.
Splende serena, o lux amata,
nam mersa in mille poenis
languet anima mea.
Stricta mille catenis
in pelago voraci
iam submersa spirat,
sed contemplando te laeta respirat.
Resplende, bella,
divina stella,
et non timebo
mortis horrores
tam cara face
gaudendo in pace,
si contemplabor vos,
cari fulgores.
Alleluia.

Auf wutschäumender See
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Latin
Auf wutschäumender See
erlitt der holde Friede Schiffbruch.
Leuchte sogleich, ach leuchte, teure
in solch schwerem Sturm
ersehnte himmlische Fackel.
Sende mir deinen hellen Schein, geliebtes Licht,
schmachtet meine Seele doch
in tausendfacher Pein versunken.
In tausend Ketten gelegt
in des Meeres Schlund
atmet sie nun unter Wasser,
doch, deiner gewahr, atmet sie selig auf.
Leuchte auf, schönes,
heiliges Gestirn,
und ich werde nicht fürchten
des Todes Schrecken.
So, teure Fackel,
erfreue ich mich des Friedens,
wenn ich deinen
lieben Schein sehe.
Halleluja.
