J’entrevis un spectacle aimable;
Et j’adorai les Dieux Qui règnent sur nos sens;
Air

Hidden in the denseness of a favorable thicket
Language: English  after the French (Français)
Recitative
Hidden in the denseness of a favorable thicket,
I glimpsed a lovely sight;
And I worshipped the Gods who reign over our senses;
But Lisette in the midst of so many charming things
Appeared to me the most adorable.
Air
Cupid no longer needs his triumphant quiver:
When he wants to surprise a heart,
He borrows the musette
From the adorable Lisette.
Let him fly everywhere in his steps,
He will be sure of victory.
Talent united with feminine charms
Are the true [assurances] of his glory.
Let him fly everywhere...
Translator's note for "musette": In the period, "musette" was used to refer either to the musette de cour, in the bagpipe family, or the oboe musette, a smaller oboe, and the text could refer to either one.
