Ik mis toch iets, dat voel ik goed; Ik mis mijn lief, mijn hartenbloed; En wil 'k de sterren gadeslaan, Kan 'k nooit een tranenvloed weerstaan. Mijn lief, waar ben je nu, zo ver, Mijn mooie ster, mijn ogenster? Je weet, ik kan niet zonder jou; De tranen komen al weer gauw. Ik had verdriet dag in dag uit, Want 'k kreeg geen lied mijn keel nog uit, Daar zoiets nooit zich dwingen laat, Maar als een briesje komt en gaat. Hoe zacht opeens doorgloeit mij 't niet! Kijk eens, dit is toch wel een lied! Wierp 't lot mij bij mijn lief vandaan, Toch voel ik: ik mag zingen gaan.
