Translation Singable translation by Lewis Novra
Ich frage nicht

I do not ask if thou art mine
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
I do not ask if thou art mine, I feel that I have guess'd aright; God's holy book, in words divine, Has taught me love must love requite! Whene'er upon thy beauteous face I gaze, I feel the sweet delight anew That fill'd my heart in those old happy days When first thy dear form met my view. I do not say 'tis thee I love What need, since thou dost know it well, But how I love thee God above, Who reads all hearts alone, can tell! One fond mute look of happiness untold, Far more than words, can show anew The spell that bound my heart in chains of gold When first thy dear form met my view.
