Simon
Nun senket sich das blasse Jahr,
und fallen Dünste kalt herab.
Die Berg' umhüllt ein grauer Dampf,
der endlich auch die Flächen drückt,
und am Mittage selbst der Sonne
matten Strahl verschlingt.
Hanne
Aus Lapplands Höhlen schreitet her
der stürmischdüst're Winter jetzt.
Vor seinem Tritt' erstarrt
in banger Stille die Natur.
Cavatina - Hanne
Licht und Leben sind geschwächet;
Wärm' und Freude sind verschwunden.
Unmutsvollen Tagen folget
schwarzer Nächte lange Dauer.

La introduzione descrive le dense nebbie che danno inizio all'inverno. ‑ Recitativo
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the German (Deutsch)
Simon
Ora volge alla fine l'anno impallidito
mentre discende fredda la nebbia.
Un grigio vapore avvolge le montagne,
e alla fine opprime anche la pianura,
e perfino a mezzogiorno inghiotte
i pallidi raggi del sole.
Vanna
Ora dalle grotte della Lapponia
si approssima il cupo e tempestoso inverno.
Al suo avanzare si irrigidisce
in timoroso silenzio la Natura.
Cavatina - Anna
Si fanno deboli la luce e la vita;
Svaniscono il calore e la gioia.
Le tristi giornate sono
seguite da lunghe, nere, notti.
