Die Welt ist Wolkenfinster

Language: German (Deutsch)

Die Welt ist Wolkenfinster,
Es tost der Stürme Schlacht,
Zu meinen Häupten leuchtet
Ein Sternlicht in die Nacht.

Der Stern ist aufgegangen
Tags, da ich dich gewann.
Nun leitet er durch Nächte
Mich still gewordnen Mann.

In meinen dunkeln Zeiten
Strahlt er herein von fern.
Die Wolken jagen und fahren,
Ich sehe nur den Stern.

Ich seh' ihn stehn und scheinen,
Ein stiller, seliger Mann;
Der Stern ist aufgegangen
Tags, da ich dich gewann.

The world is dark with clouds

Language: English after the German (Deutsch)

The world is dark with clouds,
The battle of the storms is raging,
Above my head there gleams
The light of a [single] star out into the night.

The star appeared in the heavens
On the day that I won you.
Now through the nights it leads
Me, the man who has become quiet.

Into my dark times
It glows from a distance.
The clouds scud and race [across the sky],
I see only the star.

I see it standing and shining,
A silent, bliss-filled man;
The star appeared in the heavens
On the day that I won you.
