Ak Drømmenes Eden kun vared saa kort,
Og Virkeligheden mig vækked så hårdt,
Det var ikke mig, som din Kærlighed vandt,
Da Dag ningen dæmred og Drømmene svandt.

Farvel da, I Drømme, som døved min Sorg,
Farvel, du min Dronning fra Drømmenes Borg,
Mit strålende Smykke i svindende Kveld,
Min tabte Lykke, Farvel, Farvel!

Ma peine et ma joie, de nuit et de jour.
Tu emplissais mon esprit et captivais mes sens
Tu déversais  ardeur et éclat sur ma vie.

Je savais bien que tu ne serais jamais mienne,
Mais vinrent des rêves où tu m'appelais tienne,
De doux rêves où tu étais proche de moi
Et prouvaient timidement que je t'étais cher.

Hélas, le paradis des rêves fut bien court,
Et la réalité me réveilla si brutalement,
Ce ne fut pas moi qui conquis ton amour
Quand le jour se leva et quand le rêve disparut.

Adieu donc, vous les rêves, qui apaisaient ma peine,
Adieu à toi ma reine du château des rêves,
Mon joyau resplendissant dans le soir tombant,
Mon bonheur perdu, adieu, adieu !
