You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Auf der Wanderung

Language: German (Deutsch)

Oftmals durch den grünen Wald
Eine liebe Stimme schallt,
Meinen Nahmen ruft es,
Ach! mich fällt so plötzlich dann
Übergroße Freude an;
Ist es die Geliebte?
Wieder glaub' ich sie zu sehn
Vor mir durch die Büsche gehn:
O mein Herz, wie treibt es!
Aber dann verrauscht im Wind
Das Gebilde so geschwind;
Müde steh ich sinnend.

Wenn der Bach vom Felsen springt,
Mein' ich daß es mir gelingt,
Und ich bin nicht säumig:
Stolz sieht mich der Felsen an,
Und ich schau ihn wieder an
Eben auch nicht freundlich.
Blumen, die am Wege blühn,
Seh' ich ihren Nahmen ziehn,
Jeder Baum rauscht Lila:
Was habt ihr damit gethan?
Bringt mich auf die rechte Bahn?
Keine Kunst ist Necken.
Aber alles macht mich irr',
Immer dummer vom Gewirr,
Seh' ich kaum den Weg mehr;
Werd' ich aber vor ihr stehn,
Will ich um so klarer sehn,
Oder gar erblinden.

Sur le chemin

Language: French (Français) after the German (Deutsch)

Souvent à travers la forêt verte,
Une chère voix retentit,
Elle appelle mon nom,
Ah ! alors je ressens si soudain
Une si grande joie ;
Est-ce ma bien-aimée ?

À nouveau je crois la voir
Devant moi à travers les buissons ;
Ô mon cœur, comme cela m'émeut !
Mais alors dans le vent s'évanouit
L'image si rapidement ;

Chaque arbre chuchote Lila :
Qu'avez-vous fait ?
Montrez-moi le bon chemin,
Il n'y a pas d'art à taquiner.

Mais tout me fait m'égarer,
Toujours plus stupide dans l'enchevêtrement,
Je peux à peine avancer ;
Mais si je me tenais près d'elle,
Tout deviendrait clair,
Ou je deviendrais complètement aveugle.
