La stella adorata

Voi stelline, tacite nell’eccelso,
voi stelline che scherzate nel mare,
quando io, da lontano, lassù
così benevole vi vedo luccicare,
allora, incerto tra la gioia e la pena,
il mio cuore si fa turbato e greve.

Tremola ai venti della primavera
il cielo nel verde specchio d’acqua.
Alcune stelline vedevo sbocciare,
altre stelline vedevo sparire;
ma adesso non riesco a ritrovare la più bella,
che un tempo si mostrava all’innamorato.

Non posso slanciarmi nel cielo
per inseguire la mia buona stella;
sempre una nube me la tiene lontana.
Là negli abissi ci vorrei riuscire,
per raggiungere il fine che mi dia pace,
là negli abissi riposerei volentieri!

Perché cullate in un gioco gentile
voi, venticelli, il battello indugiante?
Oh, guidatelo su una rotta tormentosa,
laggiù, tra il ribollire dei flutti!
Lasciate che nel fresco delle onde
io mi avvicini alla stella adorata!
