I see as if reflected in a mirror Myself in the eyes of my beloved; Every seal that concealed me From my own self has been broken. Through your gaze, my heart And the world have become transparent, What is true and what is trivial in the world Has been eternally made clear to me. As through my breast here passes The quiet beating of your heart, Thus I feel what causes creation to revolve From the first to the last day. The worlds all revolve around love, Love is their life, love is their death; And within me surges the world’s commotion Of the joy of love and the agony of love. The soul of creation is eternal peace, Its life-spirit is a constant war. And thus is peace allotted to me, Victory over death and life, victory! I speak quietly to the love in my heart, Like a flower to the sun’s brilliancy: You give me joy, you give me pain! I live for you and I die for you!
