You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Auf dem schlanken Kahne fuhren

Language: German (Deutsch)

Auf dem schlanken Kahne fuhren
Lustig wir hinab den Rhein:
Thal und Berg und Burg erglänzten
Blau im duft'gen Morgenschein.

An den Ufern Thürm' und Städte,
Blitzend schien die Sonne drauf,
Bunte, sonntagsfrohe Menschen
Grüßten jauchzend unsern Lauf.

Auf dem Decke klangen Lieder,
Jubelnd kreiste der Pokal;
Leicht dem Augenblick ergeben,
Dachte keiner seiner Qual.

Alle hatten sich gefunden
In dem süßen frohen Spiel;
Auf der Fluten Strömung lauschend,
Stand ich einsam an dem Kiel.

Wolken, Vögel sah ich fliegen
Durch des Himmels blaue Pracht,
Und ich hab' in weicher Sehnsucht
Deiner, fernes Lieb, gedacht!
