You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Es drohte mir ein Abgrund tief

Language: German (Deutsch)

Es drohte mir ein Abgrund tief:
Das Grübchen in Deinen Wangen;
Mir bangte sehr, doch winkt's und rief
So süß, so voll Verlangen -
Ich trat hinan, und schwindelnd tief
Stürzt' ich, und war gefangen!

Da drohte ein zweiter Abgrund tief:
Das Grübchen in Deinem Kinne;
Und wie es lockte, wie es rief,
Hinan mit bangem Sinne
Trat ich - und stürzte wieder tief,
Und liege noch jetzt darinne.

Und über dem Abgrund hört' ich jetzt
Den Quell der Liebe rauschen -
Ich durfte, von seiner Flut benetzt,
Seinem süßen Gemurmel lauschen;
Und möchte des Abgrunds Tiefen jetzt
Mit keiner Höhe vertauschen.
