A light exists in Spring
Language: English
Available translation(s): GER ITA
A light exists in Spring
Not present on the year
At any other period.
When March is scarcely here
A color stands abroad
On solitary hills
That science cannot overtake,
But human nature feels.
It waits upon the lawn;
It shows the furthest tree
Upon the furthest slope we know;
It almost speaks to me.
Then, as horizons step,
Or noons report away,
Without the formula of sound,
It passes, and we stay:
A quality of loss
Affecting our content,
As trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a sacrament.

Im Lenz leuchtet ein Licht
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the English
Im Lenz leuchtet ein Licht,
das übers Jahr sich nicht
auf diese Weise zeigt.
Kaum dass der März anbricht,
tritt eine Farbe an
im Feld, auf freier Flur,
die ein Labor nicht schaffen kann -
der Mensch erspürt sie nur.
Es wartet auf dem Gras,
zeigt sich am fernsten Baum
und auch vom fernsten Hügelhang
spricht es dich fast noch an.
Wenn ferner geht der Blick,
wenn Mittage vorbei,
zieht es, gibt keinen Laut von sich,
davon, lässt uns zurück:
Für uns ist’s ein Verlust,
der unser Glück einschränkt
als griffe plötzlich der Kommerz
ein in ein Sakrament.
