Liebchens Blick
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Erhebst du die klaren Äugelein;
So freuen sich Sonnen- und Mondenschein,
Und alle Sternlein neigen sich,
Und singen fröhlich: wir lieben dich!
Du senkest des Blickes milden Strahl;

The gaze of my sweetheart
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When you raise your clear eyes,
Sunlight and moonlight rejoice,
And all the stars bow down
And sing joyfully: we love you!
You lower the gentle beaming of your gaze;
And the hills give forth scent, the valley burgeons,
And a thousand flowers nod to you,
And call out laughingly: how beautiful you are!
But when your dear eyes are covered by the night of your lashes,
The moon and the splendour of stars vanish,
The flower in the meadow closes itself up,
And in slumber yet it laments: where can she be?
But I hasten out into the night,
And dreamily I walk around your silent house,
I am comforted and tortured by the torment of love,
And quietly I sigh: ah, if only you were mine!
