Reeling up from The intoxication of suffering I see, Trembling through tears, the renewed world. The scent of summer is already wafting along the woods - Oh evenings full of green lustre, you starry sky, How yearningly you overfill my heart! Friends, are you still alive? Wine, do you still glow? Are you still mine, enchanted world, That, only through tears and from a distance, I see Wandering -- there, where long I saw only emptiness? Does the old roundelay begin again? Does the sweet summer magic Draw back once more the one who died? My soul still doubts the miracle; The summer and the wood are not yet mine again. But the stars glow with greater holiness and clarity, Silently I direct my listening upward, their world-tolling Brazenly sounds the song of my fate to me, And my heart sounds a hesitant echo.
