by Zygmunt Krasiński (1812 - 1859)
Translation by Monica Mary Gardner (1873 - 1941)

Ja błąkam się wszędzie
Language: Polish (Polski)
Ja błąkam się wszędzie,
Ja wszędzie się wdzieram,
Gdzie światów krawędzie,
Gdzie aniołów pienie,
I dla ciebie zbieram
Kształtów roje,
O dziecię moje!
Myśli i natchnienie.

I od duchów wyższych,
I od duchów niższych
Farby i odcienie,
Dźwięki i promienie
Zbieram dla ciebie,
Byś ty, o synku mój,
Był, jako są w niebie,
I ojciec twój
Kochał ciebie.

Ja napoję
Usta twoje
Dźwiękiem i potęgą,
Czoło przyozdobię
Jasności wstęgą
I matki miłością
Obudzę w tobie
Wszystko, co ludzie
na ziemi, anieli w niebie
Nazwali pięknością –
By ojciec twój,
O synku mój,
Kochał ciebie.

I wander everywhere
Language: English  after the Polish (Polski)
I wander everywhere,
I enter everywhere,
In the confines of the worlds,
Where there are angels' songs:
I gather up for thee
The throngs of countless forms,
Thoughts and inspired words,
Oh, little child of mine!

And from the highest souls,
And from the lowest souls,
Colours and shadowings,
Sweet sounds and rays of light,
I gather up for thee,
That thou, my little son,
Shalt be like those in heaven,
And by thy father loved.

I'll give thy lips to drink
Of sound and power,
I will adorn thy brow
With ribbons of bright light.
And with a mother's love
I'll wake in thee
All that is beauty called
By angels in heaven and man on earth,
So that thy father may
Love thee, my little son.
