Line 1 : Since “sintamos” is a plural verb, the author here is expressing both a person pained by his/her soul, and a soul [itself] in pain.
Line 4 : Venial sins are minor, trifling sins that easily forgiven. They are even less serious than mortal sins: more serious sins involving a penalty of spiritual death.
