泉水
Language: Chinese (中文)
Available translation(s): ENG
Notes from the researcher (Kairui Zhou): The text is from 诗经
(Classic [Collection] of Poems), a collection created between the 11th
and 7th centuries BCE (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_of_Poetry
[wikipedia] ). The source website was https://so.gushiwen.cn/gushi/shijing.aspx. This
type of ancient Chinese is written in an unbroken series of
characters, without modern punctuation, but the editor of the website
has added punctuation to provide a more structural feeling. We have changed the formatting
to allow the English translation to appear in parallel.

Spring Water
Language: English  after the Chinese (中文)
Flows the spring water,
returns back to Qi river.
Thoughts of hometown Wei arise in me,
day and night I cannot forget.
Beside those ladies,
I converse with them.
Leaving the lodging at Ji,
drinking farewell at Mi.
A girl journeys,
far from her parents and kin.
Asking about my aunts,
and then my elder sisters.
Leaving the lodging at Gan,
drinking farewell at Yan.
Loaded with lubricant oil and rouge,
Returning with cars beyond measure.
Rapidly arriving in Wei,
Will there be no defects or harm?
I think of rich springs,
This becomes my eternal sigh.
I think of meeting you,
My heart is pensive.
Riding out for a journey,
To express my sorrows.
