Wer that's?
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Wenn ich allein bin im Stübchen,
Beim Lampenschein,
Dann hallt dein Schritt auf der Diele,
Du trittst herein.
Dein Mund ist freudlos geworden,
Dein Auge trüb,
Die Stirn voll grübelnder Fältchen --
Wer that's, mein Lieb?
Du suchst mit klagenden Augen
Den Fensterplatz,
Da stürz' ich dir weinend zu Füßen:
"Vergieb mir, Schatz!"

Who caused that?
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When I am alone in the little room
In the lamplight,
Your step echoes in the vestibule,
You enter.
Your mouth has grown joyless,
Your eyes dull,
Your brow is full of brooding little wrinkles --
Who caused that, my love?
With lamenting eyes, you seek
The place by the window,
Thereupon I cast myself, weeping, at your feet:
"Forgive me, darling!"
