Trösterin Musik
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Musik! du himmlisches Gebilde
voll hoher Macht, voll süßer Milde,
wir fühlen doppelt tief dein Walten,
wenn uns ein Leid das Herz gespalten.
Der Schmerzenswogen wirres Drängen,
es glättet sich vor deinen Klängen,
besänftigt all die Fluten ziehen
ins weite Meer der Harmonien.
Wie Orgelton, wie Meereswogen
kommt dann der Trost ins Herz gezogen
und stillt der Seele wildes Sehnen
und löst das Weh in milde Tränen.
Musik! du himmlisches Gebilde
voll hoher Macht, voll süßer Milde,
du pochst noch in den tiefsten Schmerzen
mit leisem Finger an die Herzen.
Und wenn die Seele, gramgebrochen,
kein Wort mehr hört, das Trost gesprochen,
wenn längst verstummt die stillen Klagen
im Leid, das tränenlos getragen:
dann fühlt das Herz in Orgeltönen
ein hehres, himmlisches Versöhnen
und findet in dem Klang der Lieder
den letzten Trost, die Tränen wieder.

Music the Comforter
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Music! You heavenly creation
Full of exalted power and sweet gentleness,
We feel your workings twice as deeply
When sorrow has split our hearts.
To the wild surge of waves of pain
Your sounds bring smoothness,
All the waters move calmly
Into the open ocean of harmonies.
Like an organ sounding, like waves of the sea
Consolation is then drawn into the heart
To quieten the wild longing of the soul
And dissolve the pain into soft tears.
Music! You heavenly creation
Full of exalted power and sweet gentleness,
You keep tapping with a quiet finger
On hearts in the deepest of pains.
And when the soul broken by sorrow
No longer hears any word speaking comfort,
When the long since muted, silent laments
Are borne in tearless sorrow:
The heart then feels in the strains of an organ
A noble, heavenly reconciliation,
Finding in the sound of songs
The final comfort of tears come again.
