Whatever the others may say of the sun
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Whatever the others may say of the sun --
I love the storm, for he is regal!
A vast kingdom lies at his feet,
Land and sea bow down before his sceptre.
He flings a cloak of clouds about his shoulders[,]
Presses the circlet of wheat into his fluttering hair,
Then he spreads his sombre-grey pinions,
And an eagle, certain of victory, flies before him.
Rendering homage, the fir bows down to the earth,
The rocky cliffs tremble and the wave flees,
Pale with terror, people fold their hands,
And through the winds surges a song of rejoicing.
Storm, storm, do not go past my window,
I spread my arms wide in wild passion,
For an atom of your regal soul
Lives glowingly, demandingly also in my breast.
