by Christian Felix Weisse (1726 - 1804)

Der arme Mann
Language: German (Deutsch)
Schwester.
 Bruder! sieh den armen Mann
Doch nicht in der Näh so an!
 Wie verhungert! wie zerrissen!
 Nein, mich schaudert hinzugehn! -
Aber du? - so mocht ich wissen,
Was du willst an ihm ersehn!

Bruder.
 Laß mich immer naher gehn,
 Und sein ganzes Elend sehn!
Man lernt nie sein Gluck erkennen,
Wenn man nicht das Elend kennt,
Noch für den voll Dank entbrennen,
 Der uns dieses Glück gegönnt.
