Wie spiegelt der See in grüngoldenem Schein!
Die Ruder, sie schaufeln im Takte;
Und wandelt die Wasser in Flammen;

Lake song
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
How the lake sparkles with a green-gold shimmer!
The oars dip and pull in rhythm;
They scoop up crystals and precious stones,
And everywhere from the rocks
Cataracts are plunging against the bosom of the lake.
The sun, it bathes so gladly in the lake,
And turns the waters to flames;
From far and wide the fish sparkle,
And every wave has its own star,
And collapses ecstatically!
It is so lovely to lie stretched out in the boat
With ephemeral jests fluttering about one -
Surrounded by the scent of roses, teased by young maidens;
Sing, lovely ones, and awaken the echo,
And awaken the youth of yore in our hearts!
