Die Husarenbraut
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Sie reiten am rosigen Morgen
Zum schimmernden Tore hinaus,
Da lausch ich am Fenster verborgen,
In meines Vaters Haus.
Vorbei! Und ich lächle und sinne:
O wüßt es der strenge Obrist,
Wie treu auch im Dienste der Minne
Sein prächtigster Reiter ist.

The bride of the hussar
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
On a rosy morn they are riding
Out through the shimmering gateway;
In my father's house, concealed by my window,
I listen.
And mounted upon a fiery steed
My handsome, my blithe sergeant now comes by,
Then he, my sweet comrade, smiles
And moves his hand in greeting.
A blazing glance flies over to me,
No one else notices it;
Oh, good luck upon the way, you my dear,
My lively, proud hussar!
They're past! And I smile and think:
Oh, if the stern colonel only knew
How faithful also in the service of love
His most splendid rider is!
