You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Ich hab' in mich gesogen

Language: German (Deutsch)

Ich hab' in mich gesogen
Den Frühling treu und lieb,
Daß er, der Welt entflogen,
Hier in der Brust mir blieb.

Hier sind die blauen Lüfte,
Hier sind die grünen Aun,
Die Blumen hier, die Düfte,
Der blühnde Rosenzaun.

[Und hier am Busen lehnet
Mit süßem Liebesach,
Die Liebste, die sich sehnet
Den Frühlingswonnen nach.]1

Sie lehnt sich an, zu lauschen,
Und hört in stiller Lust
Die Frühlingsströme rauschen
In ihres Dichters Brust.

Da quellen auf die Lieder
Und strömen über sie
Den [vollen]2 Frühling nieder,
Den mir der Gott verlieh.

Und wie sie, davon trunken,
Umblicket rings im Raum,
[Blüht auch]3 von ihren Funken
Die Welt, ein Frühlingstraum.

Je me suis tant abreuvé

Language: French (Français) after the German (Deutsch)

Je me suis tant abreuvé
Du printemps fidèle et aimé,
Qu'il est encore en mon sein,
Et pourtant déjà du monde envolé.

Voici les airs bleutés,
Voici les vertes prairies,
Ici les fleurs,les parfums,
La clôture de rosiers fleuris

Et là, sur mon coeur,
Avec un doux soupir d'amour,
Se penche ma bien-aimée,
Nostalgique des délices du printemps.

Elle s'y appuie, elle écoute,
Et entend, douce joie,
Dans la poitrine de son poète,
Le murmure des brises du printemps.

De là jaillissent les chants,
Qui sur elle s'épandent,
Pleins du printemps
Que Dieu m'a prêté.

Et alors que, de ces chants enivrée,
Elle regarde l'espace tout autour,
De leur éclat, fleurit le monde.
Un rêve de printemps.
