Qui couvrait le tonnerre avec ses battements.

De la dépouille d'or du frêne et de l'érable
L'Automne composait son éclatant butin,
Et le corbeau toujours, d'un vol inexorable,

Ich ging mit dem aufkommenden Sturm über das Land,
im fahlen Licht des Morgens, unter den niedrig hängenden Wolken;
Ein zwielichtiger Rabe war mein einziger Begleiter,
und meine Schritte klatschten durch die Regenpfützen.

Der Blitz am Horizont ließ seine Flammenspur hernieder rasen
Und der Nordwind verstärkte noch sein Ächzen und Stöhnen;
Und doch war das Unwetter zu zahm für meine Seele,
die den Donner mit ihrem Schlagen noch übertönte.

Das goldene Laubkleid der Esche und des Ahorns
Wird dem Herbst zu seiner prächtigen Beute,
und immer noch begleitet mich der beharrliche Flug des Raben
ohne, dass das etwas an meinem Schicksal ändern würde.
