Du gabst mit treuer Miene Mir meinen Gruß zurück, Die wallende Gardine Entzog dich dann dem Blick. Nun hat das reiche Leben, Das ringsum sich ergießt, In deinem stillen Weben Den Punkt, in dem es schließt: Du wirst die Beere pflücken, Die dort zur Reife drängt, Dich wird die Rose schmücken, Die hier im Grünen hängt. Und danke ich der Quelle, Die mir den Trunk gebracht, Dank' ich so mancher Stelle Voll kühler Waldesnacht, Dank' ich der Sonne willig Ihr herzerfreuend Licht, So dank' ich dir auch billig Dein süßes Angesicht.
