Der Himmel, endlos ausgespannt,
Ist dein geliebtes Heimatland:
O glücklich, wer wohin er geht,
Doch auf der Heimat Boden steht!

Je me promène comme un étranger de pays à pays,
Si sans patrie, si inconnu ;
Montant et descendant les montagnes, allant et sortant des forêts,
Mais je ne suis nulle part, hélas, à la maison.

Mais toi tu vas en haut et en bas,
De ton berceau à l'est jusqu'à ta tombe à l'ouest,
Tu vas en pèlerinage de pays en pays,
Et pourtant, où que tu sois, tu es chez toi.

Le ciel, qui s'étend sans fin,
Est ta patrie bien-aimée ;
Ô heureux celui qui, où qu'il aille,
Se tient encore sur le sol natal !
