Des Lebens Tag ist schwer und schwül

Language: German (Deutsch)

Des Lebens Tag ist schwer und schwül;
Des Todes [Odem]1 leicht und kühl:
Er wehet freundlich uns hinab,
Wie welkes Laub ins stille Grab.

Es scheint der Mond, es fällt der Thau,
Aufs Grab, wie auf die Blumenau;
[Auch]2 fällt der Freunde Thrän' hinein,
Erhellt von sanfter Hoffnung Schein.

Uns [sammlet]3 alle, Klein und Groß,
Die [Muttererd']4 in ihren Schooß.
O sähn wir ihr ins Angesicht;
Wir scheuten ihren Busen nicht!

Il giorno della vita ci opprime pesante

Language: Italian (Italiano) after the German (Deutsch)

Il giorno della vita ci opprime pesante,
il soffio della morte è leggero e fresco,
e in basso ci trascina, delicatamente,
dentro la muta tomba, come fogliame secco.

Splende la luna, cade la rugiada
sopra le tombe come sui prati in fiore;
Anche la lacrima di un'amico cade
che la dolce speranza sembra illuminare.

Torniamo tutti, piccoli o grandi,
nel grembo materno della terra scura;
Se solo la guardassimo più attenti
del suo abbraccio non avremmo paura.
