You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Nun blüht die Welt nicht mehr für mich

Language: German (Deutsch)

Nun blüht die Welt nicht mehr für mich,
Nicht mir ruft Wind und Vogelschrei.
Mein Weg ward schmal, ich geh vorbei,
Kein Freund begleitet mich.

Und jeder Blick ins frohe Tal,
Wo meine Jugend heimisch war,
Ist nun für mich Gefahr
Und bittre Qual.

Und stieg ich nieder noch einmal,
Zu stillen meines Heimwehs Not,
So stünde dort, wie überall
An meinem Weg der Tod.

The world no longer blooms for me now

Language: English after the German (Deutsch)

The world no longer blooms for me now,
Wind and bird-shrieks do not call to me.
My pathway has grown narrow, I walk past;
No friend accompanies me.

And every glance into the merry valley
Where my youth felt at home
Is now a danger to me
And bitter agony.

And were I to descend once more
To assuage the misery of my homesickness,
As everywhere else, there death
Would be standing beside my path.
